Rochester is in New York, in the Northeast, where four distinct seasons shape local life: hot humid summers, snowy winters that can close businesses for a day, and a dense pattern of towns where walking, transit and street parking all matter. Traffic in Rochester peaks on weekday mornings and afternoons, so allow extra time then. Addresses read from the street number up to the city, state abbreviation and five-digit ZIP code; the map link on this page shows the exact spot.

My 'country boy' heart felt right at home today. As part of my training in #Urban #Agriculture, I visited the incredible 490 Farmers project in Rochester, NY. It was my first stop on what will be a series of visits to urban gardens. π±π πΎ Growing up surrounded by agriculture was a privilege I cherish and something I often miss. But today, I realized that this connection to the land isn't lost in big cities it has simply evolved!π𧩠The work of 490 Farmers is a perfect example. They don't just grow food; they also grow community. It's proven that access to green spaces and community gardens can improve mental well being and reduce stress in urban areas. In an increasingly fast-paced world, urban agriculture offers us a moment to breathe and a reminder of the importance of nourishing ourselves and each other.πππ½ The future of agriculture is in our hands, and it's germinating right in our own neighborhoods. Who else believes that cities can be the next great farm?π±πΊποΈ

A much needed space for more than just gardening. It is a gathering space for the community to work together, overcome obstacles and celebrate growth and harvest. Thank you 490 for existing. We all need it

The 490 Community Garden held a Fall Harvest event with Fruition Seed Company, Taproot Collective, Apple cidar maker, making cornhusk dolls, and learning to make Fire Cider. Lori's All Natural provided the supplies to make the Fire Cider. Fruition Seed Company also shared their beautiful hot peppers. The 490 gardeners work very hard to grow their vegetables & flowers each year to sustain their fellow gardeners. What is a community garden? It is where gardeners pay for a plot and grow their own vegetables & flowers for their family. Sadly, over the years, there has been a higher amount of pilfering from non-gardeners (at ALL community gardens). Stop and think when you see a community garden in your city, you are welcome to look but don't pick or take these hard-working gardeners' food. Many of the community gardens grow food for their local soup kitchens & food cupboard. If you are someone who needs the food, reach out to the garden leaders & and I'm pretty sure they will help you out. Community Gardeners are trying to help with food insecurities, teaching, and sharing knowledge with the younger generation. Saving seeds to pass on to others.

Great opportunity to grow fresh fruits, veg and flowers while supporting an important community org! Growing community is as important as growing veg! :)
